草榴社区 Season of Service: Making an Impact in our Communities

Every day, 草榴社区 employees around the world help shape the future of technology. But when November rolls around, we take our passionate pursuit of excellence up a notch, giving back to the communities where we live and work during our month-long “Season of Service.”

This annual volunteering initiative continues to grow. In 2024, 草榴社区 employees in 56 office locations and 23 countries dedicated their time and energy for 85 community-driven projects. All told, more than 7,800 volunteer hours were reported during our Season of Service, accounting for roughly half of the total volunteer hours logged by employees over the year.

Expanding our impact

Stats only tell part of the story, of course. The full impact of volunteering — for the causes and organizations we support, the people and communities they serve, and our own employees — is immeasurable. You can’t put a number on feelings of safety, confidence, pride, and community. But those are nonetheless more evident each November.

As Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO of global nonprofit , likes to say, volunteering transforms people and businesses, benefiting both those serving and those being served.

“At this pivotal moment in history, volunteering isn’t just nice, it’s necessary,” she said in a recent . “When volunteers give of themselves to help others, they heal divides, enhance community health and resilience, and inspire us by living with purpose.”

We partnered with Points of Light (POL) again this year to organize projects around the world. With the help of POL’s network of affiliates and the commitment of our employees, we added Singapore, Japan, and Italy to our roster of participating countries.

草榴社区 2024 Season of Service, by the numbers:

  • 7,800+ volunteer hours (doubled the number of hours compared to last year)
  • 85 volunteer projects (up 16%)
  • 56 office locations (up 30%)
  • 23 countries (added 3 new countries)

Many ways to do good

Season of Service is a cornerstone of our broader 草榴社区 for Good program where we generate positive community impact, address social challenges around the world, and create access to opportunity by mobilizing the resources of 草榴社区. and The 草榴社区 Foundation, as well as our employees’ contributions of time, expertise, and charitable giving.

By working to deliver meaningful change, we give back at the local level and live our commitments across three primary focus areas: education, community, and environment.

This past November, employees from across the company took part in a wide range of projects, including:

  • Planting seedlings and removing weeds, a vocational employment program for people with disabilities in Portugal.  
  • “Plogging” expeditions in Korea and China, which combine jogging and picking up trash along waterways.
  • Helping students build DIY solar lamps for their school in Hyderabad, India.
  • Cleaning outdoor spaces and preparing meals for underserved individuals at a community center in Italy.
  • Assembling “” — tiny robots created from simple household items — for STEM classrooms in the U.S.

Projects like these and so many others support the communities in which we work and live, and we continue to hear how engaging and fulfilling they are for our employees.

“This has been a very enriching experience not only for the students, but also for us,” one employee volunteer in Zapopan, Mexico said. “It is very rewarding to share some of the knowledge we have so that we can create a better future for everybody someday. I believe it is important to start this outreach work at an early stage to spark their curiosity and interest.”

The sentiment was the same on the other side of the world in Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s capital city in eastern India. “Our visit to this school is special as we could directly communicate with the small children,” said Suraj Pattanaya. “These children are from rural areas and do not have exposure to a lot of amenities, but they were very curious to learn and create new things. We did so many things, like create teaching and learning materials on sense, organs, and days of the week. I am very happy to be a part of this program.”

A culture of giving back

Season of Service has reinforced volunteering as a defining part of our company’s culture. We were recently named a , a program based solely on employee surveys that shine a spotlight on socially responsible workplaces. The recognition is a testament to our employees’ dedication to giving back.

As a company, we will proudly continue to contribute to causes in our communities, just as we’ve done since 1992 — whether it’s volunteering, financial donations, matching funds, or strategic grants from the 草榴社区 Foundation. It’s all part of our vision to generate positive community impact and inspire a new generation of leaders.
